San Francisco – Los Angeles = ca. 450 miles… final spurt!
On wednesday I took off from San Francisco. After two days on the bike, I made a stop in Santa Cruz and spent a full day at the laptop again to reconstruct the blog and erase that topic from my to-do-list.

A huge area of farmland, salad-, cabage-, and strawberry plantations were edging the road when I went from Santa Cruz to Monterey on Saturday. There I visited the famous Monterey Bay Aquarium with my Couchsurfing host the next morning, before going on to Big Sur. Disregarding the beautiful landscape, it was one of the less awsome days on the bike. It was a sunday, Father’s Day and far too much traffic, which, of course, was out of respect for bikers sharing the road. In/ Behind the Big Sur SP were some good climbs to manage and the further south I came, the warmer it got.  The coast again was a dream, passing long parts of cliff line, beaches, sea elephants, bridges and going through the hilly grassland near Morro Bay, which became dryer the further I got.
In the beautiful town San Luis Obispo I made a break day and had a great time with my Couchsurfing host Joe with a potluck party, breakfast, visiting the farmers market, going to the cinema watching ‘Finding Dori’ :) and so on…
As I went through Lompoc on saturday, unfortunately my carrier broke for the second time on this trip, this time on the other site. The solution was again the use of cable ties (must have on every bike tour). That gave me the possibility to go on carefully to Santa Barbara yesterday. The stop here wasn’t planned but I prefer waiting for the repair and go on with a fixed carrier.

Von San Francisco aus ging es am Mittwoch wieder weiter. Nach zwei Tagen auf dem Rad habe ich mich in Santa Cruz noch einmal einen kompletten Tag ans Laptop gesetzt, um die Umgestaltung des Blogs endgültig von der “To Do” Liste zu streichen.
Durch ein riesiges Gebiet mit Farmland, Salat-, Kohl-, Erdebeerenplantagen und vielem mehr bin ich Samstag von Santa Cruz nach Monterey gefahren, wo ich Sonntagfrüh das berühmte Monterey Bay Aquarium mit meinem Couchsurfing host besucht habe, bevor ich noch bis Big Sur gefahren bin. Abgesehen von der Landschaft war es einer der nicht so tollen Tage auf dem Rad. Es war Sonntag, Vatertag und viel zu viel Verkehr unterwegs, der natürlich keinerlei Rücksicht auf Radfahrer genommen hat. In/nach dem Big Sur SP waren einige gute Anstiege zu bewältigen und je südliche man kam, desto wärmer wurde es. Die Küste war jedoch wieder ein Traum, vorbei an einem langen Part Steilküste, Stränden, Seeelefanten, über Brücken und dann auf einmal durch immer trockener werdende hügelige Graslandschaft in der Nähe von Morro Bay. In San Luis Obispo, einer sehr tollen Stadt, habe ich noch mal einen Tag Pause gemacht und hatte eine super gute Zeit mit meinem Couchsurfing host Joe, mit potluck party, Frückstück, Besuch vom Farmers market, ´Finding Dori´ im Kino :) und und und. Als ich Samstag durch Lompoc gefahren bin ist mir leider das zweites Mal auf dem Trip mein Gepäckträger gebrochen, diesmal auf der anderen Seite. Die Lösung waren mal wieder Kabelbinder (must have für jede Radtour), sodass ich gestern vorsichtig bis Santa Barbara weiterfahren konnte. Der Stopp hier war zwar nicht geplant, aber ich warte doch lieber auf die Reperatur und fahre morgen dann mit einem heilen Gepäckträger weiter.
