Leaving St George, my Warmshower hosts Bob and Carol accompanied me on their tandem  to Springdale in Zion NP. We started in the dark to avoid the heat and enjoyed having breakfast in Springdale. Through them I got in contact with Robin, who lives in Rockville. I could stay there for the following two nights. The first afternoon I walked around in Springdale. Early the next morning I hiked the ‘Angels Landing trail’ and afterwards explored a part of the Narrows before it became to hot. After a nap, I went rock climbing in the canyon with James, a friend of Robin. In the evening we all had a barbecue together. A perfect day in Zion NP, which I liked even more than the Grand Canyon for its landscape and where there is much more to explore in a colder season.

On tuesday I went on in the direction of Page AZ, where my plan was to visit the Antelope Canyon and the Horsehoe Bend. Starting early in the morning in Zion NP, I enjoyed the landscape in the sunrise and admired some animals, which had’t yet fled from the traffic.
Said and done. When I arrived in Page I visited the Horsehow Bend with my spontaneously found Couchsurfing host Chris and the next day I made a tour into the Lower Antelope Canyon. Unfortunately the insitution organizing the offered tours there was extremly bad. You had to wait for more than 45 minutes in the direct sun and heat to even enter the canyon. During this time more than 5 people passed out, which could besides be caused by their ignorance/unreason. The canyon itself was unique and fascinating.

On friday I hitchhiked the way back I came by bike and was taken along a bit further by a friend of Susan, so that I could cycle to the Bryce Canyon yesterday afternoon.

Von St George aus wurde ich von meinen Warmshower hosts Bob und Carol auf ihrem Tandem bis nach Springdale im Zion NP begleitet. Wir sind noch im Dunkeln gestartet, um die Hitze zu meiden und haben in Springdale angekommen dann ein leckeres Frühstück genossen. Durch die beiden wurde mir ein Kontakt zu Robin, die in Rockville wohnt hergestellt. Bei ihr konnte ich die kommenden zwei Nächte übernachten. Nachdem ich am Nachmittag des ersten Tages noch ein bisschen in Springdale rumgelaufen war, bin ich früh am morgen des nächsten Tages den ´Angels Landing trail´ gewandert, um danach, bevor es zu heiß wurde, noch einen Teil der Narrows zu erkunden. Nach einem kleinen Mittagsschläfchen bin ich am Nachmittag dann mit James, einem Freund von Robin im Canyon klettern gewesen und abends haben wir noch gemeinsam gegrillt. Ein perfekter Tag im Zion NP, der mir landschaftlich fast noch besser gefallen hat, als der Grand Canyon und in dem es in einer nicht so heißen Jahreszeit noch viel mehr zu erkunden gibt.

Am Dienstag habe ich mich auf den Weg Richtung Page AZ gemacht, wo ich den Antelope Canyon und den Horseshoe Bend besuchen wollte. Früh morgens im Zion NP gestartet, konnte ich die Landschaft im Sonnenaufgang genießen und einige Tiere, die noch nicht von einer Flut von Autos vertrieben wurden, bestaunen.
Gesagt, getan habe ich in Page angekommen mit meinem spontan gefundenen Couchsurfinghost Chris den Horseshow Bend besucht und den Tag darauf eine Tour in den Lower Antelope Canyon gemacht. Leider war die Organisation für die angebotene Tour (Ken tours) sehr mangelhaft, sodass man mehr als 45 Minuten in der prallen Sonne und Hitze warten musste, um überhaupt den Canyon betreten zu können. In der Zeit sind mehr als 5 Leute in der Schlange zusammengeklappt, was sicherlich auch ein wenig an der Unwissenheit/Unvernünftigkeit einiger Leute lag. Der Canyon selbst war dennoch einzigartig und faszinierend. Am Freitag bin ich die Strecke, die ich mit dem Rad gekommen war wieder zurück getrampt und wurde von einer Freundin von Susan noch ein Stück weiter mitgenommen, sodass ich gestern Nachmittag noch bis zum Bryce Canyon radeln konnte.
