Caused by many coincidences and fortunate meetings, I went to the Colorado river, after exploring San Diego downtown in the daytime. The brother of my Warmshower host Nicole offered to take me along as he went there on friday night. I could stay with them in their house by the river for the weekend and continue my tour from that point. After a glimpse on the map, I spontaneously dismissed the plans I had so far and found myselfs a few hours later 190 miles east of San Diego, south of Blyth. It certanly was a temperature shock, to leave the warm but endurable clima at the coast and enter the maddening permanent heat at the Colorado River. Many people told me again and again how hot it would become, when I went east but the temperature and the dryness beat my expectations. The weekend was fun anyway. During the tour with the boat on the river you could refresh yourself the whole time. For the first time I tried boat tubing and wakeboarding and was even allowed to steer the boat. For marshmallows and melted chocolate you didn’t need a fire and wet clothes dried within five minutes.
More coincidences and the enormous heat bestowed me a ride with Rande from Blyth to Prescott, which I gladly accepted. The day afterwards (Tuesday) she also took me along with a tour through Sedona / the Red Rock State Park to Williams, where I started again on bike to the Grand Canyon on wednesday.

Auf Grund von etlichen Zufällen und Treffen bin ich Freitag Abend nach einem Erkundungstag in San Diego downtown zum Colorado River gefahren. Der Bruder von meinem Warmshowerhost Nicole kurz vor San Diego ist am Freitag Abend dort hin gefahren und hatte angeboten mich mitzunehmen. Ich könne das Wochenende mit ihnen in ihrem Haus direkt am Fluss verbringen und dann von dort aus weiter fahren. Nach einem Blick auf die Karte habe ich meine eigentlichen Pläne also sehr spontan verworfen und war schon am Abend 190 Milen östlich von San Diego am Colorado River südlich von Blyth. Es war allerdings ein kleiner Temperaturschock, da es von einer warmen aber dennoch angenehmen und aushaltbaren Temperatur an der Küste ohne Übergang zu einer unerträglichen dauerhaften Hitze am Colorado River ging. Viele Leute hatten mir immer wieder gesagt, dass es heiß werden würde, wenn ich Richtung Osten aufbreche, aber die Temperaturen und die Trockenheit übertrafen dann doch meine Erwartungen.
Das Wochenende hat trotzdem super viel Spaß gemacht. Bei der Fahrt mit dem Boot auf dem Colorado River konnte man sich immer wieder erfrischen, ich konnte zum ersten Mal boat tubing und wakeboarding ausprobieren und durfte sogar das Boot fahren. Für Marshmallows und geschmolzene Schokolade hätte man noch nicht mal ein Feuer gebraucht und nasse Klamotten waren nach 5 Minuten in der Sonne trocken.

Durch weitere zufällige Begegnungen und der unglaublichen Hitze habe ich auch das Mitfahrangebot von Rande von Blyth nach Prescott angenommen und wurde am Tag darauf (Dienstag) von ihr mit einer kleinen Tour durch Sedona / dem Red Rock State Park nach Williams gebracht, von wo aus ich am Mittwoch mit dem Rad zum Grand Canyon aufgebrochen bin.
